First Street Brewing Co. takes steps to reduce footprint

At First Street Brewing Company, we’re aware of the need to take care of our environment, now more than ever. We’re also keen on bettering ourselves and our community, and sharing that message— to hopefully spark the idea that simple changes can be made within our businesses to reduce our carbon footprint.

We’ve always had the idea that if we create a space that can serve as an example — we can create a shift in our community. These are the some small steps we’ve taken to slow down our environmental impact.

  1. We intentionally chose to can our beer and not only for its ability to retain flavor, but also because cans are more easily recycled— especially in our area.
  2. Purchased a six-pack from us? Hang on to the 6-pack holders and we will take them back for and give you a discount.
    • Return 5, get $1 off a pint
    • Return 10, get a half-price pint
    • Return 15, get a pint on us
  3. We use glass and stainless steel growlers in our Tap Room. Giving our customers the chance to refill them with their favorite beers and not have to create additional container waste.
    • This year, the use of growlers has allowed us to keep nearly 7,000 bottles out of the landfill.
  4. We highly encourage the use of reusable water bottles! We have a water faucet in our tap room that encourages anyone and everyone to hydrate freely, the best part— no straws!
  5. We use washcloths in our restrooms as hand towels, cutting down on paper waste AND creating a first class experience for our customers.
  6. Our tables and bar top are made with reclaimed wood we found during our building’s construction.
  7. Finally, we’re working with food trucks that come to serve outside of our Tap Room. We have asked them to begin utilizing reusable plates and flatware when serving to people inside First Street Brewing Co., and by rethinking their packaging to permanently use compostable packaging materials.

With these small steps we are trying to subtly change the atmosphere in and around First Street Brewing Company.
